There were two main things that have implicated the shape of this building.
URBAN BUILDING
The challenge of this project was to restore the dead part of the Merchant City. The Music Academy should create public space around it. I designed a small square surrounded by three buildings (Music Academy, Music Library and Music Store). I hope that this part of the city will start to live.
How to tell people that there is an attractive space in the middle of non popular area?
There are five main viewpoints where from people can walk to the designed square. The Music Academy will absorb the attention of people walking near those points. Shape and elevations of this building were designed especially to absorb pedestrian s attention.
ACOUSTIC FEATHERS OF AUDITORIUM
The Music Academy is the place where people can play or listen to the music. There are seven practise rooms and an auditorium for 216 people on the ground floor and on the balconies. If it is necessary the wall behind the stage can be opened and another 200 outside seats can be used.
The proportion of the auditorium is designed to achieve the best quality of played music. The most important aspect is height. To minimise standing waves, there are no parallel walls. To reduce echo, perforated wooden panels were designed on the walls, and seats surrounding the stage more vertically than horizontally. People seating in the auditorium will reflect and diffuse waves as well. There are acoustic panels above the stage, to direct waves from the stage to seats, and back to the stage.
